Join us at the Blue Water Grill, 16th Street and Camelback Road at 12:00 pm on May 19th. Our speaker will be Rosemarie Dombrowski is the inaugural Poet Laureate of Phoenix, AZ and the founder of Rinky Dink press. She is the recipient of five Pushcart nominations, a 2017 Arts Hero Award, the 2017 Carrie McCray Literary Award in Nonfiction, and a fellowship from the Lincoln Center for Applied Ethics. Her collections include The Book of Emergencies (2014, Five Oaks Press), The Philosophy of Unclean Things (Finishing Line Press, 2017) and The Cleavage Planes of Southwest Minerals [A Love Story], winner of the 2017 Split Rock Review chapbook competition. www.rdpoet.com
Rosemarie will discuss the delicate dance between running a tiny press and being a full-time writer and professor (and mom). From her grad school origins with Merge, a local zine-turned-national-journal, to the evolution of Write On, Downtown from a student-only publication to a community-centric one, to the inception of the quirky-and-niche Rinky Dink press, she’s learned the rules of the academic/small press publishing game just well enough to thwart them!
