October Meeting

Join us on Saturday, October 20th, for our monthly meeting. The meeting starts at noon and we meet at the Blue Water Grill located at 16th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix. Our guest speaker this month is Fernanda Santos. We hope to see you there.

Fernanda Santos has reported in three languages, in Latin America and the United States. She is a Southwest Borderlands Initiative professor of practice at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, joining it last fall after 12 years at The New York Times, including five as its Phoenix Bureau chief. Her first book, “The Fire Line: The Story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots,” received the Western Writers of America 2017 Spur Award for Best First Nonfiction Book and was one of two finalists in the Best Contemporary Fiction category. Santos is a board member of the Arizona Latino Media Association; a member of the founding advisory board for Migratory Notes, an immigration newsletter; and a volunteer at the News Literacy Project, a nonpartisan national education nonprofit that teaches middle- and high-school students how to sort fact from fiction in the digital age. She is working on her next book project, tentatively titled “One Day at a Time.”
