We hope to see you there. Our guest speaker will be Karen Shiffman Lateiner. Karen will be talking about her writing and her book, ” Timeless Dance: A Story of Change and Loss”.
Karen Shiffman Lateiner, M.Ed. is an author and advocate for education and services for at-risk youth. She has more than twenty years of experience as a mental health clinician and child development specialist providing services and coordinating programs for children and their families, and has served on the LGBT Task Force of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, as well as the First Lady of Phoenix’s Task Force on Bullying. As an advocate for transgender youth and adults, she has been a guest lecturer at several institutes of higher education and presented workshops and seminars on gender diversity and bullying in a variety of settings. She and her family were awarded a Social Visionary Award for their work in bringing transgender issues to the attention of the public. Her recent publication, Timeless Dance: A Story of Change and Loss, which stands as a memoir, biography, and primer on gender diversity, has opened new opportunities to tell her story in a variety of educational institutions and organizations, both formal and informal, who are interested in understanding the issues of gender fluidity in today’s world. Karen created and facilitates a Hike and Write Group in Phoenix to encourage other writers to tell their stories. In her spare time, she enjoys gardening and baking sourdough bread.
