Mark D. Walker

Walker was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala and spent over forty years helping disadvantaged people in the developing world. He managed programs abroad with CARE and Plan International and for over thirty years raised funds for such organizations as Make A Wish International and was the CEO of Hagar USA, which supports survivors of human trafficking. 

His memoir, Different Latitudes: My Life in the Peace Corps and Beyond was recognized by the Arizona Literary Association for Non-Fiction. He is a contributing writer for “Literary Traveler” and “Revue Magazine.” Twenty-five of his articles were published in literary journals ranging from Ragazine, Literary Yard, Quail Bell, Scarlet Leaf Review and WorldView. One article, “The Yang of Travel” received Honorable Mention from the 2020 Solas Literary Award for the Best Travel Writing. Another was an essay winner for the “Arizona Authors Association” 2020 Annual Literary Awards competition and “Ramon & Moritz: A Partnership on a Black Coast” was an essay winner in last year’s competition

Walker has written over sixty book reviews and has a column in the “Arizona Authors Association Newsletter”, The Million Mile Walker Review: What We’re Reading and Why. He is a producer of a documentary on immigration challenges in Guatemala, Trouble in the Highlands. Last year he was interviewed by “Global Connections TV” and “SIETAR” (Society of Intercultural Teaching and Research). He founded Million Mile Walker LLC as his writer’s platform in 2016.
